Broken Crayons Provide Pencil Grasp Practice for Kids (Who Knew?) Parenting

Don’t throw away your child’s broken crayons. Broken crayons provide a great way to help encourage a good pencil grasp. Sometimes children develop improper pencil grasp and then have a hard time breaking the bad habits before they enter school.

The best way to hold a pencil is between the thumb and the index finger with the pencil resting on the middle finger. Small, broken crayons help children use a pinch, which encourages this “tripod” grasp. Keep a box of broken crayons handy to help keep those little fingers busy. Fun and helpful for kids!
