Whether you live in Houston or a trip there is in your travel plans, it’s easy to get in those 10,000 steps in H-Town. Here are four Texas-sized places to get your steps on!

  • The Houston Zoo – Power walk or just take a leisurely stroll down the wide walking paths, stairs and ramps, all landscaped with lush foliage, flowers and hundreds-of-years-old oak trees, in this 55-acre zoological park.
  • Hermann Park – A power walk may slow to a stroll as you explore this historic 445-acre park (the zoo is 55 acres of it). Work those muscles as you ascend the rolling hills at Miller Outdoor Theatre, catch your breath as a check out Southern Pacific steam engine #982, gaze at McGovern Lake and admire the Japanese gardens.
  • Downtown H-Town – Walk your way through downtown Houston, where you’ll find buildings dating back to the 1800s, modern structures like Minute Maid Park (home of the Astros), Toyota Center (home of the Rockets) and Discovery Green, a 12-acre urban park that has green lawns, a lake, interactive fountain, artwork, gardens – and even a misting tree to help cool you down.
  • Buffalo Bayou Park – Want to combine Houston’s skyline with beautiful scenery, artwork and … bats? Buffalo Bayou Park is 160-acres and winds through downtown along Buffalo Bayou. Plan your walk so you end up near the Waugh Street bridge at dusk to see over 250,000 bats emerge from underneath.
