The Viral Crispy Fried Hardboiled Egg Recipe Is Hard to Forget (2 Ingredients, 5 Minutes) High Protein Recipes Breakfast Went Viral Budget Recipes Snacks Gluten-free Low Sugar Recipes Meal Prep Recipes
Hardboiled eggs are an ingredient I like in my diet. Eggs that are hard-boiled are the perfect quick and easy high-protein breakfast or snack when you're trying to add more protein to your diet or lose weight. When I saw this crispy fried hardboiled egg recipe that went viral, I had to make it. After sitting down to a plate of these little gems, that's pretty much all I thought about that day. This is a deliciously easy way to add flavor and texture to hardboiled eggs.
You only need two ingredients to make this egg recipe. Here is what you need to gather from the fridge and pantry: hardboiled eggs and cooking oil of choice. I've seen people make these fried hard-boiled eggs with olive oil, vegetable oil, beef tallow and bacon grease. I had bacon grease in the freezer, so that was my cooking oil of choice. (Bacon grease also adds more flavor to the eggs.) The eggs are simply fried yolk side down in the hot oil until golden and crispy. So simple, yet the cooking adds texture to an otherwise one-note egg and flavor. Delicious!
Cooking Tip: You can buy hardboiled eggs in most grocery stores now. If you want to cook your own eggs, my favorite way is in the Instant Pot™. Here's how to cook eggs in an Instant Pot™.
This viral egg recipe is delicious for breakfast, as part of a fun brunch spread or for lunch (add a salad on the side!) or as a high-protein snack during the day. You use them for meal-prepping, too. Chop the eggs up for a delicious egg salad or throw them into a lettuce salad or into chicken salad or potato salad.
Add toppings to the pan-fried hardboiled eggs to make them your own! I added a list of topping suggestions below, but get creative. For my first batch of eggs, I decided to keep it simple with just sea salt, black pepper and hot sauce. Next time it will be chili crunch oil and chives.
Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 1 minute
Cook Time: 4 to 6 minutes
Total Time: 5 to 7 minutes
Servings: 2
Ingredients
- 2 hardboiled eggs
- 1 tablespoon bacon grease, beef tallow or cooking oil of choice
Optional Topping Ideas
- hot sauce
- crumbled bacon
- fresh chives
- green onions, sliced
- lime juice
- chili oil
- chili crisp
- soy sauce or tamari
- fresh cilantro
- pesto
- black pepper
- sea salt
Here's how to make it:
- Cut your hardboiled eggs in half. (Do not remove the yolk!)
- Heat your oil of choice in a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. (I used bacon grease.) Add the eggs, yolk side down.
- Cook until the eggs are crispy and golden brown. Flip them over. (You can remove now to eat or cook a couple minutes on the other side. I only cooked one side.)
- Remove to a plate.
- Season as desired. (I sprinkled mine with sea salt, black pepper and Tabasco sauce.) Store the eggs in an airtight container in the fridge. Use as desired.
