Is white chocolate chocolate? Kind of. While dark chocolate contains cocoa solids and cocoa butter, white chocolate only contains cocoa butter. Antioxidant-rich dark chocolate offers more health benefits than white chocolate, so it is the healthier choice.

If you want to satisfy a chocolate craving, white chocolate is a delicious indulgence, no matter how you classify it. Just keep in mind that the American Heart Association recommends women get no more than 100 calories per day from added sugars (25 grams).

According to the law White chocolate is real chocolate, it is listed in CFR 163, there is no "sort of", the standards of identities for various foods are what keep the crooks from passing of one type of food for another. In the case of white chocolate it lists how much cocoa butter (cacao fat) must be in the product to use that name, when they don't use cocoa butter they can not use that name.
