Self-care is doing things that bring you complete, utter joy. Self-care is about intentionally engaging in activities that reduce stress and allow us to relax from our very busy lives.

Q: Are their different types of self-care?
Yes! We are complex beings! There are many parts of our well-being and we may need to care for particular aspects of your selves when we practice self-care. Let’s dive into the types of self-care.
- Physical self-care is all about taking care of our bodies and health needs. This could be anything from sleeping to exercise to our diet.
- Social self-care is focused on our relationships. This type of self-care involves connecting with our network in ways that nurture us.
- Creative self-care is all about doing cultivating your creative self through whatever medium feels right. This might involve writing, painting, or exploring a new place. The possibilities are endless.
- Spiritual self-care focuses on reconnecting to your beliefs and values. This could involve visiting a place of worship, meditating, or going on a retreat.

Q: What are some of your self-care practices?
- I love getting outside and taking walks. I work from home and it’s easy to stay glued to a computer all day. Getting fresh air is an instant pick me up!
- Taking naps! Napping isn’t just for kids. Sometimes my mind and body simply need to rest. You don’t need a lot of time, either. Ten-minute naps are amazing!
- Journaling 750 words in the morning at 750words.com. This is an exercise from “The Artist’s Way” by Julia Cameron. You basically get to dump everything from your brain to the page. Great way to release anxiety and stress.
- Having tea at the local coffee shop in my neighborhood. After I drop my daughter to daycare, I stop by the coffee shop for tea and reading for about 20 minutes.
I also love reading as a form of self care because it also helps me recharge. #30seconds #introvertproblems

Q: I am busy! How do you find time for self-care?
- Love the time you have. If you have one minute for self-care, use it. Have five minutes, that works. Any amount of time is worth it.
- Self-care can be as simple as pausing and taking a really deep breath. Do something that you really want to do. I find it easier to practice self-care when I am doing self-care rituals that work for me.
- Schedule it! Put self-care time in your calendar and set reminders on your phone. This a great way to visually see that you are a priority.
- Stay present. Mindfulness is a simple form of self-care. If you are out running errands focus your mind on each task rather than multitasking or overthinking.
Jumping in after a LONG hiatus. Hi #30Seconds tribe! My self-care is playing with my kids...without distraction, reading outside in the sun, and these chats.

Q: I have read a ton of articles about self-care and some of the ideas seem a bit boring. Any ideas for more fun or adventurous self-care practices?
Get moving! A friend of mine took a rock climbing class as part of her self-care. Go trampolining. I have heard that axe throwing is a ton of fun. I am planning on trying archery this month! This requires a bit of planning, but do a surprise weekend trip. Several travel agencies specialize in surprise planning meaning you don’t know the destination until the day you depart! I know people who have done it and loved it! Try and make a new, interesting recipe just for fun. There are a ton of ideas on 30Seconds.com.
Naps change my day completely! I am so revitalized afterwards. They are still important parts of many cultures. #30seconds

Remember that this is about finding practices that leave you feeling energized and recharged. This is different for every single person. Try a few things out and take note of how you feel afterwards!
