Cellfina for Cellulite Removal? Yes, But Only If What You Have Is Truly Cellulite by Belinda Lichty Clarke
We'd all like smoother thighs, and the prospect of a minimally invasive procedure to reduce cellulite is tempting. "Cellfina is FDA approved to treat cellulite and you can see some pretty nice improvements," says Cosmetic Physician Dr. Stanley Kovak of the Kovak Cosmetic Center in Oakbrook, Ill.
But Dr. Kovak adds that it should be noted that really there is true cellulite and "cellulite-like." True cellulite tends to occur when you are a little bit younger and it is due to the tightening of the bands that hold our skin in place to our fascia area. A lot of the time women in their 50s and 60s say they have developed cellulite, but really they have more laxity, and Cellfina really is not the choice for that laxity.
Laxity, Dr. Kovak says, requires another type of treatment, which could be something like a radio frequency treatment, a heating effect treatment of massage therapy. "So knowing which type of cellulite a person has and whether or not it will work will of course make a difference on whether or not you have good results with Cellfina," he says.
