Water Safety for Kids With Special Needs: Here's What You Should Know!

Did you know that there are life jackets that can be adapted for children with special needs? A child with special needs may not have the verbal skills to call for help in an emergency, and when wearing clothes and shoes, swimming becomes even harder. A child’s reaction time may be delayed and made worse by being caught unprepared to initiate swimming to the edge. Here are some other safety tips to keep in mind for all children:

  • Never leave any child unattended around a pool.
  • Keep drains clear of debris.
  • Have the pool fenced and locked.
  • Oceans, lakes, pools, tubs and toilets are risks to a child.
  • Always keep a phone handy in case of an emergency.
