Sweet Torrijas Recipe: This Easy Fried Bread Recipe Is Spain's Answer to French Toast

Torrijas are fried bread from Spain that is similar to our french toast. The simple fried bread recipe is popular during Lent, but can be eaten any time of the year.

This torrijas recipes is made with a day-old baguette, milk, sugar or honey, and a cinnamon stick. The bread is sliced then soaked in the sweet milk mixture. After 10 minutes of soaking, the bread is dipped in eggs and cooked in a skillet until golden brown. A sprinkling of cinnamon and sugar completes the dish.

Serve this sweet fried bread for breakfastbrunch or even for dessert. You could drizzle more honey over the top to make it even more decadent. For dessert, serve the hot french toast with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.
