#30SecondsOfLove: Attempting Random Acts of Kindness in Madrid, Spain by Jan Mostrom
Last year I challenged you to be on the lookout for people and places where you could offer some kindness. I have been doing the same.
Recently I have been blessed to visit Madrid, Spain, to see my sweet daughter who lives there. On this particular morning as I was walking through a parking lot, I saw a bus driver diligently cleaning the outside of his beautiful white coach bus. As I was passing, I offered, in my halting Spanish, to buy him a cup of coffee. He abruptly told me he didn't drink coffee, so I offered tea and water. He declined and I moved on feeling a bit chagrined at my American-ness.
It was interesting to observe how disappointed I felt being turned down, and then knowing it really didn't matter what he thought or did – I just want to put it out there and try to be of service. As it turns out, I walked back through that same parking lot not too long after, and that gentleman was still there, this time with a huge smile, a big thank you and a sweet wave.
