Naxos, Greece: Why You Need to Add This Greek Island to Your Vacation List by Margaret Steck

My husband and I went to Greece for two weeks. We spent the first week touring Athens and the second week visiting an island. But rather than going to one of the more popular islands, we chose Naxos – a lesser known island – but one that was idyllic and just downright magical.
Naxos is the largest island in the Cyclades – only five hours away from Athens by ferry or only 45 minutes by plane. Getting around the island is easy by either hiring a car service or renting a car at the tiny airport. Or, for the more daring, there are scooter rentals everywhere.
The town of Naxos is only 2 miles away from the airport. The quaint port town is filled with shops, restaurants and boutique hotels that line meandering alleyways. There are also fantastic hotels on the beach, including our favorite, Flisvos Seaside Studios and Apartments. Flisvos is a resort with a fantastic beach cafe and plenty of water activities including surfing, windsurfing, catamaran sailing and more.

You can still visit Santorini or Mykonos, but you'll enjoy fewer crowds in Naxos and still experience Greek isle magic!
