Chateau Des Briottieres: Stay in a Family Castle in France for Luxury & Romance

“Of course I want to sleep in a castle in France!” This is what my husband announced as we planned our trip to France. For me it had never been a desire, but for him it was a must. After some searching on Hotels.comBooking.com and Google I found one, which looked perfect for us.

The Chateau Des Briottieres has been in the same family for seven generations. In fact, the family lives in part of the Chateau, greets you when you arrive and helps with drink service before dinner, and wine service during dinner.

Surrounded by rolling green hills, the large Chateau epitomizes romance, luxury and style. While there we took long strolls through the gardens discovering old greenhouses, private walking paths, stately horses in pasture and old brick buildings now repurposed for pool houses and other things. Admittedly there is something quite romantic about walking through the fields of France then returning to sip wine on the porch before an exquisite dinner.

Each room has beautiful views of the property through massive windows. They are comfortably furnished in the style of the castle. On the main floor I loved to walk through the rooms each decorated with gorgeous antique furniture, portraits hanging on the walls and each doorway adorned with heavy period curtains. Of course, there was a library complete with dark paneling and a large billiard table.

In the evenings I would sit in one of the rooms sipping on an apertif and talking with the owner about the history of the home, the region and France.

Although I only stayed for three nights it was enough to get the sense of what France was and what it still can be today.
