Jewett Park: Why You Need to Chug on Down to "the Train Park" in Deerfield, Illinois

My kids call Jewett Park in downtown Deerfield "the train park" for two reasons. First, it's right next to the Deerfield train station and the kids can always see trains driving by from the park. And the park has train playground equipment. Jewett Park is right next door to the Jewett Community Center, so we always park there and go play at the park.

There are three different sets of playground equipment for different aged children spread out within the park, making it a perfect park to take children of different ages to explore! This park also as a skate park. We normally start at the tot area where the train play structure is located. You'll find lots of small climbers and tot-size vehicles and interesting play equipment you don’t see in many other parks.

They also have large disc swings in this area that are lots of fun and a sandbox. The tot area is completely fenced in with gates, so the kids can’t get out. This was a great park to take my crew to when they were little and would try to escape on me. There is a gate to get out of the tot area that takes you to a playground for older kids.

The area for older kids is full of bridges, climbing spots and larger drop offs and lily pad climbers! My kids love the lily pad climbers here because it has more pads and they are longer than at other parks. Also, there are big kids swings that are in the shade on a hot summer day.

There is also a path from this playground that takes you past the skate park and past the baseball fields to another playground that also has a pavilion. In the summer, kids’ bands come and play music once a week! My kids loved it last year. They would dance with the band for a while then run off and go play on the equipment again.

At this part of the park there is a three-story slide structure and a spinning climber. The spinning climber is kind of like a merry-go-round with a net on it. My kids love this thing! They like to hang on the outside of it and fly off and, yes, I let them do it.

Jewett Park is located at 36 Jewett Park Drive, Deerfield, Ill., 60015.
