Moist Amish Chocolate Cake Recipe With a Tasty Secret Ingredient by Tiffany Zook

Moist Amish Chocolate Cake Recipe With a Tasty Secret Ingredient

My family has a favorite chocolate cake recipe. My sister-in-law added this chocolate cake recipe to the Weavertown School Family Cookbook more than 20 years ago. This rich Amish chocolate cake recipe is a family favorite. Want to know the secret ingredient? Hint: Brew two cups of coffee before you begin baking. Drink the second cup of coffee while it bakes (or save it to eat with the cake).

The moist chocolate cake recipe is made with flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, salt, vegetable oil, hot brewed coffee, milk and eggs. Mix all the ingredients together (just one bowl!) and bake in a 13x9-inch cake pan for about 35 minutes.

Try serving this moist chocolate cake in a bowl, soaking it in milk, topping it with ice cream – or frost it with this easy five-ingredient chocolate frosting. I sometimes take a very sharp serrated knife and cut the cake into two or three layers (as pictured) so I can frost in between the layers, too. You can never have too much chocolate frosting! This will be your new favorite chocolate cake recipe for dessert or midnight snacking.

I have a cute story about this cake. A few months ago we went to a lake house with extended family for the weekend and I brought this cake. My brother in law who doesn't even like chocolate cake tried some and I guess later told his wife it was the best cake he ever had and he had seconds which never happened. Sadly he passed away this month and his wife asked me to make it for the memorial service!

Heather, sorry to hear of your brother-in-law’s passing, but glad you have a fun memory about this cake. It’s a cool morning in Texas, I think I’ll bake it today in his honor.

That's so nice. His name was Mark if you want to send good thought while making it!

Made this cake today for my daughter's birthday. Almost like the old Miracle Whip Chocolate cake. It is good.

I used to love Miracle Whip chocolate cake. But haven't had it for years. Yum if this recipe tastes like that.

The cake is a Black Magic cake! My Mom’s favorite with chocolate frosting! My Dad preferred it with butter cream frosting! A go to cake for our family!

My husband's birthday is in a few weeks and he won't celebrate his b'day without a decadent chocolate cake! I'm not much of a baker and usually buy one for him but I may have to try this one this year. Slicing through the cake to add frosting in the middle makes me a bit nervous; however, he demands a good "frosting to cake ratio"!!! What the heck!
