Surfing in the City? You Bet! How to Ride the Waves in Munich, Germany's English Garden by Elisa Schmitz

Naturally, you wouldn't think of surfing in the middle of a great European city. But in Munich, Germany, you can ride some serious waves, right in the center of town! The English Garden is Munich's largest public park. It's known for lovely picnics, nude sunbathing (seriously!) and yes, its great surfing.

The Eisbach is an artificial stream that runs through the English Garden, and people gather to surf at the southern edge of the park, next to the Haus der Kunst. They form lines and take turns (the better the surfer, the longer the ride). But be careful, the current is strong, so this is not for kids or beginners.

It's fun to watch, especially after a leisurely stroll through the park on a sunny day. Watch my video to see the surfers in action!

How much fun is this??? Germany is on my list, so hope to get to see this one day! I flew into Germany when I went to Italy, but all I saw was a hot dog and beer in the airport for breakfast! :-) Elisa All 30SecondMom
