Need to Reconnect With a Child? Try a Road Trip: 4 Tips From a Mom Who's Done It by Jan Mostrom

Last month I was blessed to take a road trip with my youngest daughter. She had just finished her sophomore year of college out of state, and I was yearning to catch up and spend some dedicated time with her before her summer internship. It was a fantastic way to reconnect and one I'll never forget!
Here some of our suggestions for a great time:
- Be spontaneous! So many of our best stories happened because we had no set plans.
- Don't use devices, except for great music. It ended up we had little or no cell service so we just went with it, talked to locals and found plenty of fun "off the grid."
- Don't use the time for "serious" life talks or conversations. Relax and see what topics happen naturally.
- Journal about it and create a photo book of memories.
Most of all, just relax and enjoy this time with your (almost) grown child.
