Morning Sickness When On the Go: 5 Tips to Help Pregnant Moms Survive the Daily Commute!

My whole life I have wanted to be a mother. I have dreamt about being pregnant and envisioned something very different than my current reality. I was quite surprised to find that morning sickness was not just in the morning, or something that takes place in the privacy of your own bathroom. It is something that happens all day, sometimes every day, no matter where you are or who you are with! To all mothers experiencing this aspect of pregnancy, I am cheering you on every step of the way and I hope these tips help you like they have helped me!

  • Carry empty ice cream containers in your purse. They make for the perfect "puke bucket" on the go. (I found Talenti to be the easiest and the best containers.)
  • Use essential oils. Place a dab on wrist before entering the train or bus and when that "bad water" starts coming, breathe in that instead of the smell of others.
  • Place yourself near a door so you can breathe in fresh air at each stop and get off, if needed.
  • Turn to music. Make a playlist of songs that encourage you to keep going, almost like a running playlist!
  • Know that you are not alone. There are probably a handful of women praying they do not puke at that very moment.

I was in the same boat, Molly Laird . I had morning sickness morning, noon and night. With my first, I was driving to work and had to pull over on more than one occasion and got sick on the side of the road. Lovely. :-) Can't imagine if I was on a bus or train! Welcome to the tribe!

I wonder why they call it "Morning" Sickness. I had low grade morning sickness 24/7. I also used ginger tea, ate a high protein, whole grain carb breakfast that helped and snacked often on cheese sticks and crackers. Welcome to the tribe Molly Laird !

I love this tip, Molly Laird ! It took me back to my morning sickness commute days. I would pull over the side of Lake Shore Drive in Chicago and puke outside my car door on the way to work. It was awful! I survived on lemonade and small turkey sandwiches. Thankfully, it passed in a few weeks. Thank you for making me LOL - who knew that delish Talenti ice cream makes for a great puke bucket, too, HA! So glad you're part of our tribe, chica. Thanks for your post Molly, it also helps to eat saltine crackers before you even get out of bed in the morning. Pregnancy hormones surges in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy are responsible for this little gem of nausea. Most of the time it goes away by the second trimester, & unfortunately for a rare few, it continues the entire pregnancy. Glad it didn't last that long w/ either of my pregnancies!

Oh yes! The crackers by the bed was and is VERY helpful. I am almost 27 weeks and still dealing with it! BOO. But hey, I get to meet my favorite person in less than 100 days... helps remind me that it is allllll worth it!
