Fathers Helping Fathers: Giving Back to the Community With the Chicago Dads Group Make a Difference

It’s important to give back to the community. Most of the time I am stuck in what I call my "kiddo bubble," meaning I’m not aware of what’s happening going on in the outside world. But today I was reminded that there are millions of families who are stuck in hardships and need help. And it’s nice to give back to the community and people in need this holiday season.

I volunteered with the Chicago Dads Group at a food pantry for an organization called Fathers Helping Fathers (FHF). Plum Organics, a great sponsor of our involved Chicago Dads Group, also donated a ton of food to the food pantry. It was nice to give back to the community and to other families and fathers in need during challenging times.

FHF is a national not-for-profit corporation based in Palatine, Ill. FHF conducts educational classes and development programs that help fathers in every aspect of parenting from prenatal classes to toddler training to dealing with teenagers.
Fathers Helping Fathers also is helping to raise awareness about the positive influence fathers have on child development and on family structures and that fathers matter!

The Chicago Dads Group drove around the community and picked up food that people donated at local stores. We loaded up the cars full of food, then returned to FHF and sorted all the food in boxes.

Plum Organics also donated a huge pallet of food to give back to the community. “At Plum, our mission is to nourish little ones with the very best food from the very first bite. Back in 2013, we founded The Full Effect® program to extend our mission to little ones in need. In America, 1 in 5 children is food insecure. That’s approximately 13 million kids,” Mandy Geisler, senior marketing manager at Plum Organics, said in a written statement. “The global giving movement Giving Tuesday is a great platform to raise awareness about this issue. By partnering with City Dads Group again this year, we’re able to bring organic baby food donations to organizations in twelve of their locations nationwide.”

It was awesome to give back to people in need with the Chicago Dads Group and Fathers Helping Fathers. And I want to thank Plum Organics for their donation and support. Meet ups like this make me proud to be part of the Chicago Dads Group, a brotherhood of dads giving back to the community.
