More research is coming out that in a child’s first year, the number of words spoken by parents and caregiver can impact their IQ and future success in school. Researchers found that poorer families tend to speak fewer words per day than middle-class families and professional families speak the most. So put away your cell phone and talk to your baby! Instruct your babysitters and relatives who are caregivers to your child to talk it up, too. What should you say?
- Tell them how your day was
- Describe what you are doing
- Tell them what is happening around you
- Read books to them
