Texting may be to blame for your teen’s falling grades, according to a new study. The research is part of a small but growing body of evidence on negative effects of electronics on sleep and school performance. 

But few studies, according to study author Xue Ming, have focused specifically on instant messaging. Xue wants educators to recognize the sleep needs of teens and incorporate sleep education in their curriculum. “Sleep is not a luxury; it’s a biological necessity,” says Ming.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) reports that kids ages 8 to 18 use electronic devices about 7.5 hours a day!
