How to Diffuse Your Kid's Temper Tantrum in 10 Seconds (Seriously)! Parenting

The meltdown: tears falling, voices raised and slobber flying. It may start because the child is overtired, frustrated or simply because you put syrup on her waffles. Yes, three days ago she wanted syrup. But in her world, you did not ask, and today she does not feel like having syrup. Or maybe they don't want to wear the shirt you picked out. Or the ice cream shop doesn't have their favorite flavor. It could be anything.

Have you ever been in the situation where your child's temper tantrum is making you reach your boiling point? Of course, you have. Before the fireworks start (and I don't mean the fun ones), have your child take a deep belly breath with you. Breathe in. Breathe out. Repeat together as you count silently to 10. It works like magic. You may both calm down, allowing voices to be lowered and tears dried.
