Merry Christmas! Make It a Holiday Tradition to Spread Kindness Like Snowflakes by Elisa Schmitz

Merry Christmas! Make It a Holiday Tradition to Spread Kindness Like Snowflakes

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good knight! But seriously, the holidays are the most wonderful time of the year, right? So with all that joy floating around, why do we often feel so stressed and overwhelmed? With so much pulling at us, with so many people needing our attention, with so many bittersweet memories of the way holidays used to be, and with so much heartache over loved ones we have lost along the way, this festive time of year can also be the toughest time of year.

My remedy? Gratitude and kindness. Remembering all I have to be grateful for keeps me in the mindset of giving back and spreading kindness. And when you do something to help others, it takes away some of your own stress, pain and heartache. With a grateful heart and an abundance mindset, I find that giving back moves you forward.

This holiday season, much of the world is dealing with challenges, chaos and fire. I’m thinking of all those who are on the front lines of battles of all kinds, whether they are in harm’s way or they are helping those who are in harm’s way.

That’s why my husband and I spend Christmas Day spreading kindness. We cook and bake for others; we drop off donations for families in need; we sing and dance to “Feliz Navidad” by José Feliciano (more than once) with mi madre and my father; we try to make a difference in our own way.

Each time we make life a tiny bit better for someone else, we feel a whole lot better. With passion and purpose, giving back centers and fulfills us. Our holiday tradition of spreading kindness like swirling snowflakes is the thing I look forward to most about this time of year.

I know there’s already so much going on during the holiday season, but by adding “spreading kindness” to our to-do lists, together we can create a blizzard of gratitude that makes life better for so many people, including ourselves.

What an eloquently phrased story about your traditions Elisa Schmitz ! And the photos are beautiful.
I wholeheartedly concur...kindness and "sharing is caring" are touchstones we should all strive for, to the best of our ability. The world would be a much better place if we all did so.
Unfortunately, I canceled Xmas this year, due to the unexpected death of my best friend. Spent the day in bed, with the blankies pulled up over my head. Hopefully, 2024 will be a better year!
Happy New Year to all!

Thanks so much Elisa Schmitz . His loss is immense - I feel like half of me is just...gone. Expect the day of the funeral (next Saturday) to be a REALLY BAD day. Tout fini. 😪
