Kids Won't Read? Find Their Interests & Let Them Choose Topics

If your child hasn't demonstrated an interest in reading, it could be because they haven't seen a book that covers topics they like yet. It's easy to get caught up in Lexiles, reading scores, etc., but what may be more important at first is to sit and talk to your child.

Ask him/her what they like and what they want to know more about. Then, let them choose what they want to read, no matter the level, and allow them to get into it. Magazines are a great way to get kids to read. After they read, discuss it and take a genuine interest in their hobbies. More advanced reading will come!
