First Day of School: When It Comes to Kids, No Two Goodbyes Are the Same

Ready, Mom and Dad? It's tough to send our children off to their firsts, whether it's the first day of kindergarten or the first day of college. We feel a separation and angst about it.

If we have more than one child, we feel it with each of them – but often differently. It's OK to not feel exactly the same emotion for each child's firsts.

Just like each child is an individual, our relationship with them is individual, too. We may have a more fearful angst with one, a grieving angst with another and still an excited angst with another. It's normal.

When we send them off, no two goodbyes are the same!

So true, Angie Mozilo ! We have several goodbyes coming up this fall, and they will all be unique!

Omg this so true! I always have different feels of goodbye too for both of my kids. I always kept it to myself because was worried they think I loved one more then the other. I do feel better that they both goto school together now. They balance each other out. My daughter is shy and a rule follower while my son will talk to anyone and will bend any rule he can.
