Texan & President of NextGen America Reacts to Uvalde, Texas, Elementary School Mass Shooting

In response to the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, NextGen America President Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez released the following statement:

“Our hearts are completely shattered over the horrific shooting that cost the lives of several innocent children in my home state of Texas. There has been a total failure to protect the lives of young people in this country and we must hold the GOP accountable for serving the NRA over the American people.

“I graduated high school the year of the Columbine massacre, the first mass school shooting in modern history. Since then, instead of passing basic gun legislation that the vast majority of Americans support, we’ve decided to teach an entire generation of schoolchildren how to play dead in their classrooms.

“Young people are paying with their lives for the failures of policymakers. Congress’ continued failure to act will result in more lives lost that could have been prevented.

"Tonight, as a mother and Texan, I’ll be holding my own 5-year-old son and thinking of the children that were gunned down and murdered during today’s nightmare in Uvalde. At NextGen America, we will continue organizing and mobilizing by the millions until we see meaningful action on gun reform.”
