Helping Kids Process Challenges & Disappointments: Preparing Kids to Leave the Nest (30-Second Video) by Jan Mostrom
“There is no way to be a perfect mother but a million ways to be a great one." – Jill Churchill
I think most parents would agree that parenting is the hardest job of all, no matter how rewarding it may be. Sometimes we have no idea what we’re doing, sometimes things go blissfully well, sometimes we question ourselves. But there are a million ways to be a great mother.
One thing that great mothers do is prepare our kids to leave us, to ready them for the good, the bad and the ugly.
For instance, we have challenges and we have disappointments in life, and how we handle it says a lot about us. Such challenges teach our kids a lot about life. We don’t always get what we want. So how do we process disappointment?
I personally go to gratitude. I’m making a gratitude list today. I’m trying to love someone today, myself and others included, and I’m going to my faith which gives me a lot of peace. So don’t forget to process and help your kids understand that life is full of challenges – it’s how we handle them that makes a difference.
