Kindergarten Readiness: 5 Fun Ways to Help Your Child Get Ready for Kindergarten!

The demands placed on kindergarteners are very different today than when we went to school. Kids need to enter kindergarten ready to read. Help them by:

  • Reading to them daily.
  • Play word games to build their phonological awareness skills.
  • Play rhyming games like, “Do these word rhyme?” or “What rhymes with…?”
  • Clap out syllables in words like, “hel-i-cop-ter."
  • Stretch out sounds in words, “What word is this, c-a-t.”

These foundation skills are prerequisites to literacy. There is a lot of information online about the importance of these skills, as well as activities to play with your child!
