Ever notice how you can't concentrate when you're super stressed? Emotional stress causes the limbic system to hijack the brain and literally shut off the pre-frontal cortex, site of concentration and memory. The next time you or your child is truly upset, try this:
- Put your first two fingers lightly on the webbed spot between the thumb and forefinger of the opposite hand.
- Say out loud, "Even though I'm feeling __ about __, I love and accept myself. And the truth is, I can handle this."
Voila! Your limbic system has just been put in its place. Works like a charm for many an adult and kid alike!
