How to Teach Your Kids About Children With Special Needs

With autism rates increasing, your child may have a classmate or family member with special needs. I have three children in my family with special needs. My twin niece and nephew are autistic, and another nephew has Williams Syndrome. It's important to me that my daughters not treat them differently because of their disabilities. 

I've taught them that no two people are the same. Some children are born disabled or become disabled from an accident or illness, and that it's not contagious. Most importantly, kids with disabilities are just like other kids in that they want friends, same as them!
