Decorating Easter Eggs: The Perfect Hard-boiled Egg Is as Easy as 1, 2, 3!

To dye the best Easter eggs, you need hard-boiled eggs done right. Here's how!

  1. Add 1 tablespoon vinegar to cold water to prevent the eggs from cracking and peels from sticking.
  2. Bring eggs to a boil for 1 minute, remove from heat, cover and let stand for 12 minutes. Do not rapid boil; the movement is what causes green rings around the yolk.
  3. Chill by gently running cold water over the eggs, towel drying and returning to the fridge in their original cartons overnight.

This advance task will save you time, allowing you to participate in the fun of decorating. Give each kid their own color station and use an easy-to-clean vinyl tablecloth.
