Clearbrook Commons: Supporting Families & Individuals With Disabilities During a Pandemic

The coronavirus pandemic has been crazy for everyone. But I want to tell you about Clearbrook Commons where my wife is the director. Clearbrook Commons is just one of the many facilities ran by Clearbrook for people with disabilities.

It seems like every day things change for her. Every day she has a new problem to solve, but she handles it like a champ.

This is just one building of the Clearbrook programs. She has to make sure 85 adults with disabilities who all live in her program are taken care of during the pandemic and keep up with continuously changing rules and regulations.

As I try to keep from going crazy doing e-learning with the kids, she is trying to keep the ship afloat at work. She jokes that there's going to be a shipwreck any day. Her building is old and falling apart, and she is always gluing it back together. But the clients are what matter and they are taken care of.

Many of us are staying home, scared and unsure of how the COVID-19 pandemic will play out. Direct service professionals for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities do not have that option. Similar to health-care professionals, grocery workers and first responders, direct service professionals report to work every day knowing there is a critical shortage of PPE and medical supplies.

Many of the clients don’t have families and need gifts this holiday season. So if you're looking for somewhere to donate, consider Clearbrook. In a normal year, donations help Clearbrook go above and beyond – to be the exceptional agency that I know. Throughout these past eight months, Clearbrook has incurred extra costs as they work tirelessly to keep the staff and their residents safe. I know 2020 has drained all of us.

Clearbrook has grieved the loss of life, the loss of normalcy and struggled financially to operate at their high standards. Your support is more crucial than ever. Learn more at
