Should I Breastfeed My Baby? 5 Benefits of Breastfeeding Pregnant Moms Need to Know

National Breastfeeding Month is a reminder to mothers about the importance of breastfeeding. While some moms can't breastfeed, those who can should take advantage of the great benefits breastfeeding provides Mom and Baby.

Are you not sure if breastfeeding is right for you? Reach out to your nurse practitioner (NP) or other health-care provider, and they can help you decide. If you are breastfeeding, here are some of the great benefits both you and your baby receive:

  • Breast milk is the best source of nutrients for most babies – it will adapt to fit the needs of the baby as it grows.
  • Breastfeeding is linked to decreased postpartum bleeding.
  • Breast milk protects babies from a variety of diseases and conditions, such as diarrhea and respiratory tract infections.
  • Infants who breastfeed also have lower rates of infant mortality.

Are you still unsure if breastfeeding is right for you? Schedule a telehealth appointment with your health-care provider to discuss other options you may have, such as formula or donor milk.
