Be Kinder to Yourself: 3 Simple Mindset Shifts to Go From Suffering to Self-Compassion

I see it all around me, and I know that you do, too. There is too much adversity and anguish going on in our neighborhoods, our towns and our world to mince words: We are suffering too much. From chronic stress, loneliness and isolation to anxiety, depression and debilitating fear, people are in pain.

Although pain in its myriad forms serves us in our growth causing us to reach for and find solutions, to ask for and receive help, to call forth deep compassion for ourselves and one another I believe that we are suffering more than we are meant to.

In the face of so much suffering, I'm sharing insights from Spirit that any of us can use to transform our experience by being kinder to ourselves:

  1. Remember who you are: So many of us are overwhelmed by pain because we’re alienated from the basic understanding of who we really are. We are energy  indestructible and infinite energy emanating from a source of unimaginable creative power. If we really knew this, if we were to wake up from the amnesia we have been lost in, the impact of difficult experiences would be softer. You are an energy being, surrounded by other powerful energy beings who chose the earth experience in order to grow and evolve.
  2. Take the leap from fearful to fierce: How would you live your life today if you understood that you are an energy being who is loved, supported and tied to universal help and wisdom? Would you make different choices? Would you worry less? Would you live more confidently?
  3. Stop dampening your own energy: We’re so creative in how we go about holding ourselves down. We do it by staying busy, being distracted and numbing out in countless ways (overeating, alcohol, drugs, overwork, chronic worry, technology)  all in an effort to manage our stress. Turn off that noise and bask in your own energy of power. Find a place of peace and calm within yourself and go there every day to replenish who you are.
