Asking Big This Giving Tuesday: Can You Help The Gem Foundation Build a Village & Care for Special Needs Orphans in Uganda?

Giving Tuesday can be the most critical time for raising funds for many non-profits. It's impossible to champion every cause, and the need seems overwhelming. 'Tis is the season for giving, and for loving others in a big way. So I'm taking a risk and I'm asking big!

For several years my husband and I have partnered with and visited The Gem Foundation, a home for special needs orphans in Uganda. The Gem is currently building three cottage-style homes and medical center outside of the city of Kampala, Uganda. The purpose of Gem Village is to create a safe and permanent handicap accessible community for the most vulnerable orphans of Uganda, those with special needs.

The vision is to ultimately challenge and change the traditional views and stigmas some have about children with special needs. The Gem will also be heavily involved in community outreach through medical care, training and counseling at Gem Village. It is essential for the gems to be raised in a safe and loving environment with permanent care options available. In the entire Kampala metro area of over three million, The Gem Foundation is the only special needs orphanage.

Essential to the care of the children is clean air, clean water and a healthy sanitation system. But building a village does not come cheap. Would you join us on our mission to loving care for these sweet gems? Would you consider:

  • A trip to Gem Village in May?
  • Donating to the cause?
  • Furnishing a home?
  • Purchasing a water heater?
  • Sharing this post?
  • Championing this cause?

Let's take this risk together and ask big! Learn more about The Gem Foundation
