Teenagers Trick-or-Treating: Teens Should Be Able to Trick-or-Treat on Halloween Because They're Still Kids

Why would anyone have an issue with older kids trick-or-treating on Halloween? Those kids who come to your door that look a little older are still kids.

That age when kids are stressed about grades, peer pressure and life in general becoming more serious is tough. Teens should not be shamed for wanting to enjoy a night just being a carefree kid.

While my teens don't have any desire to go door to door, I know they will miss the excitement of trick-or-treating. Getting into their costumes, walking up someone's sidewalk thinking about what treats (or tricks!) await them, dumping their candy from pillowcases onto the living room floor and having their massive trade session to get their hands on their favorite treats are all things that they loved.

I live in a college town and last year there were college kids trick-or-treating. I loved seeing this, as it surely took a little stress out of their crazy college schedules. Not to mention it gave them plenty of snacks to fuel their late-night study sessions.

Let's not forget that some of those "big" kids might not be teens at all but kids who grew quickly. There is a girl in our community who hit 6 foot, 2 inches in sixth grade. Should she opt out simply because her genetics make her look older than other kids? Should we now ask for I.D. when kids knock on the door?

I say, let teens be kids. They grow up too fast anyway and a night trick-or-treating is better than the many other things they could be doing. Happy Halloween!

I just don’t see what the big deal is. Teens are kids. They grow up way too fast and should enjoy every minute of their childhood. It’s candy for goodness sake. I read Keith’s tip and it was spot on!

I think considering everything that is going on in our country and the world today we should allow children to enjoy these magical moments in childhood for as long as possible. They are being forced to grow up way too fast and honestly I think it’s just downright mean to break someone’s heart by telling them to go away because they are too old. My little cousin is very big for age and Halloween was utterly ruined for her at 10 because she is so tall. People were horrible to her. That’s not how it’s supposed to go. Kids are supposed to move on when they are ready, not because they have been forced.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. What is the harm in letting teens enjoy their childhood. And yes, kids who are tall for their age face such judgement and it is not okay. I am sure it is hard enough to tower above your peers , but then to be treated with scorn when you are just trying to be a kid, that is awful. It is supposed to be a fun day, and who cares how long kids want to participate.
