Reading Tips for Parents: How to Make Reading With Kids a More Positive Experience

Reading is a fundamental and vital component of early childhood education. Many parents encourage their child to read and take time to read to them before bedtime. Sometimes, though, the push and pull of work, bills and other responsibilities make it difficult to instill a positive pattern for reading in life.

One of the most important factors of a quality, positive reading experience for every child is to set age-appropriate levels. The younger a child is, the more difficult it’s going to be to get them sitting down for a longer story. Pictures can be wonderful for children who don’t yet know how to read, and as long as they can follow along, they’ll be getting a great start.

Showing enthusiasm for the story may not be easy after a long, tough day at work, but it’s a positive step in establishing good reading habits in your child. If your child sees that you see this activity as something to look forward to (rather than a chore), they’ll take that same attitude.
