Patriotic Crafts for Kids: DIY Memorial Day Candle Holder Decorations

Get kids involved in decorating for Memorial Day or July 4th with these easy patriotic candle holders made with colored rice (no candle needed!). If you'd like to add a candle, simply push a tealight candle into the rice, making sure the flame does not touch the rice. Your kids will love making these patriotic decorations, and coloring rice is a great sensory play activity

You'll need:

Here's how to make it:

Gather all your supplies.

Pour the rice into two separate plastic zipper bags. Make sure you have some white rice left and set aside.

Add red food coloring to one bag and blue food coloring to the other bag.

Seal the bags and squish the food coloring around with your hands until all the rice is colored. Pour the rice onto cookie sheets and allow to dry.

Pour a layer of white rice into the bottom of the glass candle holder. Top with a layer red white. Repeat layers. End with a thicker layer of the blue rice

Using your hands or a craft stick, smooth the top of the blue rice layer.

If adding stars, punch them out of the white paper using the star paper punch or cut them out using scissors. Apply to the top of the candle holder using the glue stick.

Set your patriotic rice-filled candle holder anywhere you need a touch of red, white and blue!
