Discipline Hack: How to Stop a Public Meltdown When Shopping With Kids

How many times have you been out shopping with your child and they have gone into full meltdown mode in the middle of the store because you said no to something they wanted to buy? It's important to follow through, yet the temptation to give in is huge just to get the errands done.

One way to avert a tantrum is to talk to the child about taking a picture with a digital camera or their phone of the item to add to their wish list. This can also teach a child about:

  • Budgeting.
  • Saving up for something.
  • The overall concept of delay of gratification – the idea of resisting an immediate reward in preference of a later payoff.

Your small child will most likely forget about the item and your older child can have their own folder of "want" photos.
