#30SecondsOfLove: Attempting Random Acts of Kindness in Madrid, Spain by Jan Mostrom

Last year I challenged you to be on the lookout for people and places where you could offer some kindness. I have been doing the same.

Recently I have been blessed to visit Madrid, Spain, to see my sweet daughter who lives there. On this particular morning as I was walking through a parking lot, I saw a bus driver diligently cleaning the outside of his beautiful white coach bus. As I was passing, I offered, in my halting Spanish, to buy him a cup of coffee. He abruptly told me he didn't drink coffee, so I offered tea and water. He declined and I moved on feeling a bit chagrined at my American-ness.

It was interesting to observe how disappointed I felt being turned down, and then knowing it really didn't matter what he thought or did – I just want to put it out there and try to be of service. As it turns out, I walked back through that same parking lot not too long after, and that gentleman was still there, this time with a huge smile, a big thank you and a sweet wave.

Have you been able to put yourself out there with acts of kindness? Let us know and keep the challenge going at #30SecondsofLove!

You constantly inspire me with your adventurous and generous spirit, Jan Mostrom ! This is a great example of making a difference in someone's life, even if he declined your offer. You still made him smile. Thank you for sharing this! #30SecondsOfLove

I was buying candy bar at the Tucson airport and the cashier mentioned that she also liked almond joy. So, I bought two and gave her one. Told her that almond joy lovers needed to stick together . We smiled and laughed. A Great moment for both of us. Made me smile during a long layover.

Oh, I love this, Jan Mostrom ! One of my favorites is when my boys and I left little treats on the doorsteps of neighbors' homes and then rang the doorbell and rang. We mostly chose elderly neighbors. We loved doing it!
