Say No to Plastic: Here Are 3 Reasons to Reduce Your Use of Plastic Now! by Ikram M.
Reducing our use of plastic is a hot topic right now. Here are three reasons you should think about limiting your use of plastic products today:
- Toxic to Your Health: Whether it’s from your water bottle or food storage container, plastic can leach toxic chemicals into your drink or food. One study published in PLOS ONE, found the presence of endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in commercially available water bottles. When our endocrine system is exposed to toxic chemicals, they disrupt this system and can cause thyroid disorders, cancerous tumors or trigger adverse neurological, immune, reproductive and developmental effects.
- Destroys the Environment: Every 60 seconds, one million plastic water bottles are bought around the globe, according to WaterDocs.ca. As a result, about three billion pounds of plastic water bottles are added to landfills, and another eight million tons end up in the ocean.
- Harms or Kills Marine Life: Plastic trash kills more than a million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals a year, according to the World Wildlife Federation (WWF). And even when plastic breaks down, the microplastics are swallowed by planktons, an important source of food for fish. And who eats fish? We do!
Whenever possible, opt for glass, silicone or stainless steel!
