Finding Your Happy: Don't Lose Sight of Your Rainbow While Living Your Life

For most of my younger life, I lived with my eyes firmly fixed on the future. We’ve all been there. You can’t wait for the weekend, eagerly await that promotion or count down the days until vacation. But for all of my 20s, I literally lived for those moments off on the horizon.

When I met Mr. Right, when I had a baby, when I wrote the Great American Novel, that’s when my life would magically fall into place. That’s when I would be truly happy.

Then somewhere in my 30s, I woke up and realized that maybe the life I had always imagined for myself wasn’t going to happen after all. Maybe I would remain single, childless and continue writing brochures and bios for the rest of my days. That’s when I started finding the joy in my life just as it was.

  • I could travel as far as my income would take me.
  • I could order Chinese takeout with a movie anytime I wanted.
  • I didn’t have to sign autographs!

I started living my life in the here and now instead of putting it on hold for some possible moment in the future. Don’t get me wrong, I think goals are important, even crucial. But just be sure that on your way to that pot of gold, you never lose sight of the rainbow!
