It’s Birthday Season: Why It's the Most Stressful Time of the Year

My four children were all born at the same time of year. One in late June and three in early July, the 5th, 8th and 12th if we are keeping track, and believe me, sometimes it’s harder than it sounds.

My youngest, who’ll be 13 soon, recently had an “aha” moment and exclaimed, "Wow, Mom, I know what you were you doing in October!" Her friend, who was in the car with us, was both amused and traumatized at the thought of Mrs. T doing the nasty … four times.

My oldest is on his own, so that’s a relief. Having three birthdays in one week is costly and exhausting. I managed most years to have dual celebrations for my daughters who are 51 weeks apart. They loved telling people they are Irish twins. Not so politically correct these days I’ve learned, but I’m off the hook because I was raised Catholic. And I’m a little Irish.

Ever wonder how you pull off enthusiasm for four birthdays so close together? You don’t. By the last one, my happy birthday song is hummed. Candles are reused or forgotten altogether. Even the birthday girl is tired of cake and hoopla. So, as birthday season gets closer, I’m putting my game face on, hoping for the best.

Happy birthday, kiddos! There, my job is done.

I feel you ... somewhat. My kids are June, August and September, and mine is two days after my son's in September. Now I have a grandson's in July. Lots of summer birthdays here, too. Happy birthday to all your kiddos!

Yes, I feel that with our tons of summer birthdays. My twins were born a few days before Christmas, so that's a whole other thing, too. Lot of combo gifts for them over the years, LOL! Thanks for the share, and happy birthday to all! :-) Dawn Taylor
