Embrace the Rainy Days: How to Catch Raindrops & Find Joy Every Day

Rain started pouring down while I was driving to the grocery store. I pulled up to the traffic right next to an SUV. The passenger side window rolled down and a little boy, no more than 7 or 8 years old, stuck his head out of the window. He tilted his head back, opened his mouth and allowed the raindrops to hit his tongue. He continued to do this as we waited at the stoplight looking full of joy and bliss.

As I continued to drive, I thought how in our own lives we experienced rainy days, both physically and metaphorically. Rainy days can be uncomfortable, inconvenient and unrelenting. Yet, they serve a much needed purpose of cleansing, clearing and encouraging growth.

Joy is right in front of us often in the most simple ways. Sometimes I find myself overthinking and trying to curate experiences that I think will bring me joy. In reality, oftentimes, joy is often found in the most subtle ways and require little effort. Joy is always within our reach, especially in the everyday experiences of life.

May you catch a few raindrops and learn to find joy in the midst of it all.
