Fibromyalgia: The Chronic Rheumatic Condition Is Not in Your Mind, But a Great Source of Relief Is

We've heard it a thousand times: "It's all in your mind." "If only you'd exercise." "Why don't you just fight through it?" We don't want to be like this, to feel like this. This is the way we are. Pinned in place, fighting an invisible demon that's taken hold inside of us and rarely lets us rest, much less live our lives.

So, what do we do? The answer is in the question. Fibromyalgia is not imaginary. Those of us who have it know this. But while the illness is not in your mind, the negativity and doubt are. Tucked away with them, however, is also the key to making it easier to navigate.

The human brain is a powerful machine. So powerful, in fact, that the human body will believe anything this all-knowing super computer tells it. There is no truth vs. lie; there are only commands. Your body reads this information as the gospel and, in turn, reacts to them.

Filling your head with negative thoughts is harmful. If they are all your body hears, your body will have a negative reaction. If you fill your mind will positive thoughts, good things will happen. Walls will come down. Hills will be easier to climb. Pain will be easier to dampen. Healing can occur. Complaining has also been proven to have negative effects on the body as your brain actually rewires itself to become more negative. When the negativity takes over, you get stuck there.

So, while it may seem nice to find someone who knows how you feel and can share your pain, don't let yourself become mired in it. Speak your peace and move on. Keep it positive. Always.
