New Year Goals & Dreams: What Would You Do If You Knew You Could Not Fail? Tell Us!

Fellow 30Seconds contributor Stephanie Cannoe posed a question on social media for friends to consider as they looked ahead to the new year: What would you do if you knew you could not fail? The responses were varied and inspiring:

start a business
write full-time
become a foster parent
travel the world
run an animal sanctuary
become a wildlife photographer
become a farmer
sing
start a non-profit

And more! This got me thinking; what if we asked this question of a larger audience? What if we posed this question to our 30Seconds tribe?

So … what about you? What would you do if you knew you could not fail? Comment below and share your response with us. We’ll compile all responses and share them in a new 30Seconds tip, a look at what our community would do if we knew failure wasn’t an option. Who knows, maybe some of you will be inspired to pursue your dreams this year. Imagine what we could accomplish collectively!

This is such a wonderful post, Ann Marie Gardinier Halstead ! I have so many things I would do, I don't know where to begin. I have so many big dreams for 30Seconds and how to grow it to reach more people with inspirational content (like this post). So I guess I would start by raising enough capital to grow our team to be able to fulfill our mission of truly making life better for our global community. To touch more lives. To effect more positive change. But I also want to be careful to not change our unique culture and offerings by growing too big or too fast. So, I'm still figuring it all out, I guess. A "good problem," for sure. Thank you for raising this and I can't wait to see what everyone else shares! xoxo

I've always wanted to be an actor, writer and filmmaker. It's not failing that bothers me. It's making a living at it.

How wonderful, Jeff Jackson ! True that it's hard to make a living at it (especially if you're not in LA, etc), but maybe you could dip your toe in the water by being an extra in local TV productions, or commercial work?

Jeff Jackson : I can totally relate. I'm a writer with an MFA in Theatre (directing). :)

I'm pretty much doing what I've always wanted: writing and editing full time. What I would change is to get rid of the fear of failure I feel almost every day. If I knew I couldn't fail, I would stay on this path and stop worrying about tomorrow and just enjoy today!

Wow can I relate to your answer. I try to remind myself I am not failing if I am doing what I love. I may not always reach my best but the only way I am failing is if I am not doing anything.

I would goto spring training in Arizona. And Florida to every spring training baseball park. I just got Email spring training tickets went on sale today

Love it! My Dad does this with his childhood best friend of 66 years! They go almost every year to one or the other together places. They met at 8 years old and played baseball together. They’re both 74 now.

Be a full time blogger? Or start a business designing and making stuff...graphic and interior design oriented. Patterns for textiles, housewares, stationery and gift wrap, invitations, party supplies, furniture, etc. I do like to think of myself as a designer of all things after all. Would love to be able to just do that and live off of it.

Love this! Failure is actually HOW we get to our dream life. I deciddd many years ago to go after my dream life and just refused to give up until I did it. I used every failure (MANY) as a learning experience to move me forward.

I’ve been living my failure-filled (because I still mess up a LOT, but learn so much so fast that way) dream life for 7 years now.

I’m a children’s book author and illustrator and motivational speaker now living at the beach.

So accept that failure is PART of the dream you want and GO FOR IT! ❤️

I would write and perform a solo performance work based on the memoir I'm writing. I've done one-person shows in the past but never one that's autobiographical. I expect that, all else being equal, I'd do it even if it was considered a failure, because it would enrich me inestimably regardless.

If I knew I couldn’t fail, I would start the process to foster/adopt terminally ill babies. I fear I won’t be able to juggle my kids and job and the medical needs of babies that were born too sick to live long. I want to make sure I don’t fail them. I want to give them a loving home before passing on. I fear I have too much on my plate to start this process now.

This is just the best question, ever. Lately, I have been thinking about health and how short life is. I have been watching a show called Bunker Hill that is about a hospital that merges the best medical talent with the best tech talent, and they solve the toughest medical challenges. This is tough. I want to make a difference in this world but where to start? Everyone deserves first class healthcare. The disparity between those who have excess and those who have little is sickening to me. Our education system is not competing on a global scale. I guess if I could solve one of those problems, it would be a major feat.

I am always afraid of failing. If I knew I wouldn’t or couldn’t fail? I would run a marathon ( I hate running, btw, so that would be quite an accomplishment), sing and dance in front of people, learn a foreign language , specifically Spanish so I could communicate with my daughter’s in-laws in Spain.

I love these, Mamagrigs ! I can relate, too. I used to be very proficient in Spanish but I've lost it. I'd love to become fluent!
