Spread Goodness: 6 Easy Ways to Be Kind & Make a Difference

We live in a very strange time where our leaders do not always lead and good does not always prevail. Here are six ways to perpetuate goodness and make life easier for others:

  • While walking from one place to the next, make eye contact with people. Say hello. Smile.
  • Try and pick up three pieces of trash each day.
  • If you take public transportation, remember to thank the conductors and drivers. If you don't, remember to thank the person working at the gas station.
  • If you have leftovers that you are not interested in, still have the restaurant pack up the remaining food (including the bread at the table that will be thrown away after you leave) and give to a homeless person in need. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, have the restaurant pack half of your meal before bringing the other half to the table for you to eat.
  • If you experience good service somewhere, go out of your way to tell the management and express your gratitude. If you receive poor service, take a moment to see things in a different light. Before complaining, ask yourself, "Is it truly worth it to pass on this negative energy?"
  • In the summer, carry an extra water bottle with you and offer it to someone who needs it. In the winter, carry an extra pair of thick socks, hand sanitizer, face mask or hand warmers and offer them to someone who needs it.

Every little bit of kindness helps!

Love this, Molly Laird ! I found myself cleaning up a restroom (nothing gross!) at a restaurant when my husband and I were out of town last weekend. Why do people think it's OK to throw things on the floor? You always hope someone will see and then maybe do it themselves next time. We're all in this together. I also talked to my husband on that same trip about how everyone I made eye contact with smiled, and some would just strike up a conversation. It's so refreshing, and makes a big difference in your day. Keep these great tips coming!

That is something the runs through my head ALL. DAY. LONG. It breaks my heart a little to find that a lot of people are not doing these things with negative intentions.... they simply do not understand that their actions affect others. For some, that thought never crosses their minds.

I love finding how many people will actually smile and say hi!

Love that these are so simple yet can have such a profound effect. A better, happier, kinder world is made together. Great tip!

These are such beautiful ideas! Last year my sister gave our family 24 days of kindness ideas instead of an advent calendar full of gifts and candies. It was the best gift! We had so much fun figuring out how to fulfill each random act, and we definitely received more happiness from that than any other gift she could have given!
