Be That Person: Rachel Farnsworth Inspires With Her Heartfelt Words About Shaming & Negativity by Donna John
Instead of guinea pigs watching it rain or baby goats jumping on trampolines, the video that caught my attention this morning was of a woman bravely responding to being shamed for her gray hair. Her words really hit a nerve with me. How can someone be so hateful and negative (and obviously have entirely too much time on their hands) to call someone an “old hag” because of some gray hairs?
Her name is Rachel Farnsworth, and before this hateful comment she just shared recipes on her blog, The Stay At Home Chef. Now she’s putting yet another face to shaming, judging and just being a not-so-nice human being.
When I was little, I remember hearing about bad things that happened on the news and thought, why can’t our President get on TV and just tell everyone to be nice to each other. Yes, when you’re a child things are really that simple in your mind. I thought about this as I watched Rachel’s video for the second time. Will this really help? Will this affect at least one person to make him or her be nicer, kinder and turn their negativity into positivity? I hope so.
Rachel, your heartfelt words have resonated with many, and I pray they continue to. So right now I’m reverting back to my innocent child brain before it grew up and was bombarded with too much bad reality about the world and asking everyone to just be nice to each other. As Rachel put it, “Be that person.”
