Hot Cars Can Kill Kids: 4 Heatstroke Prevention Safety Tips for Parents

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that every nine days, vehicular heatstroke kills a child in the United States. And, every nine days, a parent loses a child to a preventable death. Since 1998, there have been 725 deaths, 25 already in 2017! It's time to stop vehicular heatstroke from killing our children. The time to take action is now! Here are four things you need to know about kids and hot cars from SaferCar.org:

  • Look Before You Lock: Make it a habit to look all around before you lock your car.
  • Never Leave a Child Alone in a Car: Think heatstroke can't happen on a cloudy day? Think again and never do it.
  • Take Action: If you notice a child alone in a car, take action immediately. Protecting children is everyone’s business.
  • Get Involved: Share information with parents, caregivers, schools and organizations, and remind everyone to look before you lock!
