Senator John McCain Diagnosed With Brain Cancer: Never Has There Been a More Worthy Time to Set Politics Aside

When I was 19, I knew nor cared about politics. Reagan was president and everyone seemed happy. Then I took a job as a nanny for the … McCain family! I started a few months before John won the election, taking Barry Goldwater's seat in the senate. Even then, politics was not center in our lives. When John was home, his attention was on his family. To have known a person who endured the unspeakable as a prisoner of war and maintained his humanity has been an experience I consider one of the greatest experiences of my life.

I saw him play with Baby Jack; watched as Meghan meticulously wrapped him around her little fingers, rendering him completely helpless in denying her whatever she wanted. I saw his humor, exchanged jabs and received nothing but his praises. Hearing that he has been diagnosed with brain cancer seems unfair given what he's already endured, but at the same time, there's no doubt in my mind that he will conquer this as well. He truly is a hero.

John has served his country with valor and is one of the greats responsible for your and my ability to enjoy the freedoms only allowed as Americans. I ask you set politics aside and reach out through one social media platform or another and send him and his family well wishes.

Here's how to contact Senator John McCain via his website or on Twitter or Facebook.
