Bullying Is Not Just Kids Being Kids: Here Are 4 Components That Define Bullying!

There are many definitions and interpretations of bullying, but it is the “experience” of bullying that becomes its most meaningful definition. The universality of bullying signifies its pervasive impact on the action of “growing up.” There are four key components that define bullying: 

  • Repetitive and persistent 
  • Intentionally harmful
  • Involving an imbalance of power 
  • Causing feelings of distress, fear, loneliness or lack of confidence

By working together, parents, teachers and school leaders have the opportunity of ending bullying in our culture by recognizing it and addressing it with impactful interventions.
