Motherhood Struggles: A Mom With an Autistic Child & Twins Explains Why It's Important to Give Yourself Some Grace

After my son was diagnosed with autism and I learned I was expecting twins, I felt compelled to give up my career as a principal to focus on the needs of my family. Being a mom is hard. There are days when my husband leaving for work in the morning sends me into tears because I don't want to be alone.

Some days I am so adverse to cleaning spilled food from the twins' high chairs for the 10th time that day, we instead have a stand-up lunch that consists of me feeding the boys like baby birds as they play. I am constantly criticizing myself on laundry piles and my diet and exercise routine and how engaged I've been with the boys.

The list goes on. I know I am not alone in these struggles. Moms, we need to give ourselves some grace. Be OK with where you are today, leave your lists and just live.
